Clinton’s superimposed characters show the multi-dimensional nature of Northwest Coast form and design. Layered one over another, they play with the concept of simplicity versus complexity. Four unique images remind us of four aspects of life.
The Halibut is a statement on hunger, it’s open mouth grabbing at a hook eagerly. It may not know that the viewer is hungry also, visually enticed by the background pattern of it’s body.
