"This mask was something of an experiment, definitely inspired a Beau Dick Pukmis mask. My idea was to incorporate whirlpools starting with the eye socket and flowing into whorls along the shape of a skull. More than anything, I wanted it to look like water is flowing over the skull portion, which is why there are no teeth. It reminded me of when I was young and fishing with my dad in Lillooet and I fell in the river. Luckily I had a rope attached to a boulder and tied around my waist. This is a reminder that the river is so powerful and unforgiving and that it can easily take you away at any time."
