Curiosity

Showing a visual maturity and a strong understanding of the traditions of the past, Clinton Work creates dynamic and thought-provoking paintings by blending the structure of ancient formline with abstracted, bold layers of color and texture.

In this grouping, he gives a nod to the traditional Kwakwaka'wakw box designs and the historic palette of black, white and red with two depictions of the great Thunderbird. Clinton cleverly pulls variations of these and weaves them into Wind, Hail and Curiosity, which reflect a portion of the Thunderbird box designs, some clear and concise, others more subtle and hidden, against a backdrop of Chilkat blanket patterns.

The overall effect of this work is compelling and inspiring. It allows our eyes to wander and fills our imaginations with curiosity.
